Frequently Asked Questions

We have come to understand that working one-on-one with a student offers limitless possibilities. Whether in person or meeting virtually, we work to build close relationships with students and families in order for students to become the best versions of themselves.

During our time in education, we have come to realize that success in and out of school is complex and intertwined. For this reason, we simultaneously work as executive function mentors, academic tutors, and life coaches.

  • What strategies do you teach your students to enhance their executive function skills?

Every student is unique so our approach is based specifically on each individual student’s needs. We teach students how to plan ahead and manage their time by chunking assignments, creating detailed schedules, and teaching techniques to help circumvent procrastination and reduce anxiety. We build a strong rapport with our students and work together to foster independence.

  • Executive function challenges often impact the writing and research process. Do you support students in this area?

Yes we do! We teach students how to dissect prompts, write clear and effective theses, identify important information, and outline the paper prior to drafting. We also teach students strategies to properly cite sources and edit and revise so they can be confident writers.

  • How do you work on study skills?

In order to effectively prepare for a test, we teach our students study skills in all content areas. We focus on how to break the content down into shorter chunks over multiple days. We may work to build flashcards, create a Quizlet, and review notes. We map out specific times and goals so the student can study efficiently.

  • What content areas do you teach?

We work with students on reading comprehension and writing skills across all content areas. If your child is in need of math or science support, we can provide you with contact information for other academic tutors.

  • How do you work with your students?

Our work is primarily virtual but can be in person if geographically possible. However, the online platform is an exceptional way to meet the needs of our students. It allows for flexibility while providing the personal interaction needed to build meaningful relationships.

  • Do you work on communication skills?

It is important for all students to self-advocate. Each week we strategize with students to determine what teachers they need to communicate with or meet. We work with students to help them craft meaningful and proactive emails, as well as plan for how to execute in person meetings.

  • How often do you see your students and how are your sessions organized?

We have a variety of scheduling options, and we are flexible in order to meet individual needs. Some students benefit from daily shorter check-ins, whereas others require sessions that last a full school period. Many institutions allow students to meet virtually during free periods built into the school day, but we also have availability outside of school hours.

  • How do you collaborate with families, schools and other providers that work with students?

An important part of our success centers around communication with those who are supporting our students. We meet with parents, send emails, attend school meetings, and spend time talking to support staff.

  • What is your fee schedule?

    $85 for a full session (45-60 minutes)

$40 for half session (20-30 minutes)

    $20 for check-in (10-15 minutes)

    $100 a week for daily check-ins

No charge for additional communication or meetings with schools, parents, and therapists.

“If it wasn’t for Anchored Learning I would not be juggling
all of my college courses and outside activities as well I am.
My organizational and study skills are where they need
to be thanks to the support I receive.”
